1822. After years of adventuring in exotic India, wealthy rakehell Lord Dyan St. Laurent Dare has been forced to return to England and assume the title of the 4th Duke of Darke, along with the attendant responsibilities, chief of which is to marry and produce an heir.
Seeking to escape familial pressure, Dyan drops in on old friends whose house parties are a scandalous secret among society's elite, but, along with his hosts, Dyan is astonished when his childhood sweetheart, Lady Fiona Winton-Ryder, nicknamed Lady Arctic, unexpectedly arrives. Fiona had scornfully dismissed him fifteen years before, and Dyan had left not just her but England, yet their long-ago, simmering attraction has only intensified...now it sizzles.
Fiona has come to save a friend from a compromising situation, but the shock of encountering masterful, arrogant, senses-stealing Dyan after so many years takes her breath away and leaves her emotionally teetering. Nevertheless, coolly assured and every bit the earl's daughter, she remains determined to rescue her friend, but will she be able to ignore her lifetime fascination and evade Dyan?
Dyan knows this party is no place for a lady like Fiona, but, by using the heat of the moment, could he - just possibly - melt Lady Arctic's ice, and, at last, capture her heart?
A classic Regency-era historical romance novella, includes explicit love scenes.

This is rather long for a novella, but it's a thoroughly enjoyable read. As much as I love the Cynsters and the Bastion club, it was really nice to see Stephanie Laurens writing something a little bit different.Of course it's written in her usual style, with an alpha-male hero and a strong-willed heroine... these two were childhood sweethearts. The cause of their estrangement was a little bit bothersome, but I could at least understand it since when it happened Dyan was seventeen and he didn't understand what it was Fiona was really saying after he kissed her and she declared that she wasn't one of his wanton scullery maids. And Fiona had been young enough not to understand that Dyan hadn't thought she was.
He went away to India when he thought her engagement to one of their friends was going to be announced, and after he left he never asked any of his relatives about her because he didn't want to hear about how she'd married. Now he's returned, upon his brother's death, and he and Fiona arrive by chance (probably by fate) at their friends' house party - which is really just an excuse for an orgy. Poor Fiona has no idea, she's there because she thinks the lady of the house, and her good friend, is a reluctant participant.
Watching Lady Arctic in action with the propositioning men is hilarious, watching Dyan melt her is delightful, and seeing them finally work out the kinks in their relationship and finally get their HEA takes things right back to hilarious. I thought that there was a great amount of humor as well as romance in this novella. As a novella it means that things move FAST, but I thought that overall it was well paced and I didn't feel too rushed.
I highly recommend as a fun, short little read for Laurens fans.

Melting Ice edition by Stephanie Laurens Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
My attention was caught from the beginning to the end of this book. There were so many erotic moments that you can't stop reading from wanting to know what's going to happen next. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a keep me awake bedtime story.
Love her books. Good relaxation and excellent disengagement from world. Fun to go into another time where things usually come out right.
I really loved this short story, and in my opinion it is very short. Although I'm not a fan of old loves being rekindled, in this case after 15 years, this one was a goodie. There is something about the way Ms Laurens writes her H's. They are always so single-minded and determined to get their lady loves. This was really lovely and leaves you feeling happy because of the main characters' hea. Of course it is also steamy but anyone who knows this author, should know what to expect.
As with all her books, love the characters and the way they interact with each other. Her characters always come alive and become real to the reader. Hate to see the end come but always look forward to her next book.
Dyan had gone to India because the girl he loved was going to marry someone else, or so he thought. When his older brother dies he returns to England to become the Duke.
After a disagreement with his great aunt Dyan rides to his childhood friend's home. Before he is shown to a room for the night Fiona, the girl of his dreams, arrives asking for shelter because she has had an argument with her brother. There is a slight problem. There is an orgy planned for the house party. Dyan manages to shelter Fiona from the goings on. In the process he seduces her.
This is a delightful novella.
If you are a Lauren's fan like me, then you may already have read/own this title. I started reading and remembered it. It has been published in two different anthologies before, it states on the copyright page. I wish would say previously published!
Melting Ice is vintage Stephanie Laurens, a really good read, though more of a novella than a full novel. It poses the question, what happens when a couple who are most definitely made for each other, because of a hideous misunderstanding, are parted for fifteen years? Well, that's where the fireworks start! I liked this book and would recommend it. It also addresses the licentiousness amongst selected members of the upper classes of the English nobility, an inevitable side effect of the fact the families made alliances for property and equal social level, NOT personal feelings between couples. Read it, it's good.
