Danger Has Away Of Bringing Out Old Feelings You Think Are Tucked Away Forever
Book One in The Heart Series
With her five-year abusive marriage and the loss of her baby behind her, Detective Charity Parris heads home, hoping to make a fresh start. Accepting the detective’s position with her father’s police force seemed like a good start. But what she hadn’t anticipated was to be swept away by Josh Muldoon, her childhood friend and the man she’d fallen in love with at the tender age of fifteen. When a young prostitute is found murdered in a dirty alley beside a popular New York pub, Charity finds herself not only partnered with Josh to bring a madman to justice, but also fighting a ghost from her past. Unaware of the dangers that lurk in the dark, Charity and Josh become lovers. But their love will be put to the test when Charity comes face to face with her past.
Wounded Heart The Heart Series Book 1 edition by Nicole Charles Romance eBooks
Wounded Heart has potential but there were some issues with plot and overly simplified characters that caused this to be a three star. I am assuming that the story was to be steeped in reality, therefore it made it hard to swallow some of the plot elements that made up the story. I finished the book because it was quick, easy, and mildly entertaining. What bothered me was the string of convenient plot developments that left me with moments...of..."really?... this is how the story is going to play out?"Charity is an abused woman who just left her husband, returning to her hometown and her cop family. It seems that everyone is a cop...the love interest (Josh), her brother (Brian), her father, and Josh's father- interesting. Charity conveniently gets paired up with Josh in order to investigate a string of homicides...
***Unfortunately I cannot write this review without HUGE SPOILERS***
Convenient and Unrealistic Plot developments:
1. Brian is in love with a drug addicted prostitute and everyone is okay with that. In fact Candy the prostitute will later join the police academy even with past arrests. 2. Charity left an abusive relationship just 6 months ago and she EASILY overcomes her reservations and strikes up a romance with Josh. I am sorry but even if you have always loved him...it should not be that easy to hop into the sack. He did not have to work for it at all. 3. Josh is a ladies man and BARELY wrestles with the idea of being in love with Charity and wants to marry her instantly. 4. Charity is now all of a sudden psychic- right in the middle of the book. 5. Charity hid being a psychic for YEARS but now all of a sudden hey I am ashamed but now that I told Josh let's just go ahead and tell everyone. 6. The villain was so obvious that I kept saying...no the author would not do that... and she did (I will not spoil who the murderer is...but most likely you will have an inkling.) 7. Every predominate female character gets conveniently pregnant.
Okay no more spoilers... I found that the characters were lacking in emotive and believable dialogue. Even though there were conflicts, they were resolved instantaneously and everyone was just happy...in fact the story was all nice and wrapped up in a neat bow.

Wounded Heart The Heart Series Book 1 edition by Nicole Charles Romance eBooks Reviews
This writer should have had someone proofread the manuscript first.
A good read
Wounded Heart had a good plot and well-described personalities for both the major and minor characters. The imagery was both vivid and believable. However, my enjoyment of the story was inhibited by the poor editing which frequently interrupted the flow of the story. Also, I don't think that Josh and Charity had enough time together to experience all of the emotional upheavals that occurred. This book is good but not great and would definitely benefit from a good proofreader. I would recommend it to others with qualifications.
The story was well told, although I had to suspend my disbelief occasionally. However I was stopped numerous times by the poor proofing and editing. Lots of spaces between words were missing. Many of the editing "fails" were common, such as passed/past; into/in to; your/you're; too/to; and whole/hole. But others were just poor word choices or substitutions such as conscious/conscience; nap/nape; bared/bore; pleasure/pleasant; scare/scar; wondering/wandering; segregate/surrogate; and bare/bear. These stopped the flow of the story for this reader.
For the overall the read was OK if you are killing time with nothing else to do and taking into consideration that this was a free read.
***Spoiler alert*** only because they are my main peeves with this book.
Psychic.... really... didn't want tell anyone but then everybody knows in the family and then the sharing begins with complete strangers.
Secondly, every cop in this book makes detective.... and within 3 years. Wow.
And really somebody gets accepted into police academy after previously admitting in the book that they had spent a year in jail for drugs and not to mention other recent arrests and known activities. Seriously?!?!?
